Letters, 1839 March 16-April 26, New York, to John N. Barbour, Boston.

Writing to a Boston merchant, Proctor discusses shipping and freight in cotton, tobacco, salt, and coal, a vessel that Barbour owns, the "Robin Hood," as well as dealings over the sale of another, the "Swiftsure." Proctor talks about upcoming trips to Genoa and Liverpool, and discusses the excitement over the imminent arrival in New York of the "Great Western." One letter (March 29) talks about carrying freight and passengers to the Oregon Territory.
